Additional Sights Near Little Horse Trail

If you don’t mind adding a couple more miles to the day’s hiking log, consider adding the one-mile trek (2 miles total with return) to Cathedral Rock to the itinerary while you’re in the area. With the trailhead located close by to Little Horse Trail, it is possible to do both in the same day. The trailhead is located just off of Back O’ Beyond Road and almost immediately begins to ascend, climbing approximately 550 feet over the distance of a mile. The terrain can be technical, with some portions requiring a steep climb over a crevasse. The sweeping views of the surrounding mountains and valleys are astonishing and well worth the effort for hikers who are confident with heights and some rock scrambling! You’ll want to pause for plenty of pictures and refueling before heading back down the steep descent.

Another option after conquering Little Horse Trail is to head to nearby Crescent Moon Picnic Site to refuel and take in the beautiful surroundings. This site is situated along a creek lined with trees and with Cathedral Rock towering in the distance. In fact, many people come here to snap that perfect photo of Cathedral Rock reflecting in the water. Picnic along the creek’s shoreline and cool off with a wade in the refreshing water! From the Crescent Moon Picnic Site, you can walk upstream to Buddha Beach, another good site for picnicking and swimming.

Once you’ve had your fill of hiking for the day, head to one of Sedona’s nearby restaurants to indulge in some well-earned eats.
