Protecting Sedona’s Environment

Sedona, Arizona is a spectacular place that people have revered for centuries. It is an excellent destination for ecotourism, allowing visitors to appreciate the incredible red rock formations and lush forests while still preserving them for future generations.

The Institute of Ecotourism is a nonprofit organization located near Tlaquepaque Arts and Crafts Village. Dedicated to educating travelers in the practices of getting the most out of their Sedona experience while simultaneously lessening their impact on the natural environment, this institution believes that through increased awareness of the community’s diverse atmosphere, participants can observe the ecosystem without disturbing its balance or disrespecting the cultural significance of various sites.

With the contribution of a small donation or entry fee at the door, visitors can attend one of the regularly scheduled programs and presentations that are designed for viewers of all ages. The funds from these presentations go toward an ever-expanding list of environmental projects, while the presentations themselves are fun and educational. After all, you’re never too young or too old to learn how to care for the environment! The times and lengths of the presentation will vary.

Other events hosted by the Institute of Ecotourism include community outreach events and exchanges that focus on the cultures of those who live in and utilize Sedona’s natural environment, from out-of-towners coming in for a visit to the Native Americans who have cultivated the lands in the area for thousands of years.

If you wish to support the green movement during your stay in Sedona and leave a legacy of beauty for years to come, the Institute of Ecotourism is a great place to become more informed on the ways of environmental consciousness before embarking on your travels. Enjoy the interactive exhibits on natural history, native cultures, a show on the plants of the region, a number of learning stations, and an organic greenhouse. The institute is open daily, from 10:00am until 6:00pm.
