Sedona is known for its red rocks, its cool pines, and for Oak Creek bubbling merrily as it meanders through town, providing an added layer of serenity that makes it one of the most popular vacation destinations in the state. Offering a more moderate climate than the southern parts of Arizona, summers are not as harsh and winters never rage, and this mild climate, combined with its innate tranquility and soothing beauty, are all reasons you will want to play outside as often as possible during your visit. This guide to some of our favorite outdoor recreation in Sedona AZ and your stay in our warm and welcoming Sedona.org sanctuaries will help you fill every minute of your Arizona vacation with joy, excitement, and fun.

Look to the Stars

There once was a time when every person everywhere in the world could look up into the vastness of the dark sky and watch billions of stars twinkle brightly, but light pollution has changed that. Stars don’t shine as bright, nor do they appear as frequently in most places, but Sedona is officially recognized as a Dark Sky Community, banishing light pollution, and stargazing tours are a popular nighttime activity. Sedona Stargazing Tours provides celestial adventures, offering an education while encouraging a continuation of your youthful adventures—you know, the ones where you would lie back against the soft green grass, and simply stare at the magic in the sky, perhaps making a wish when you were lucky enough to see a shooting star? The cool night air, the shadows of red rocks that appear black except where they reflect the glow of the moonlight, and the calm and peaceful quiet of the night makes this tour a special one.

A Taste of the Wild West

The Wild West has been tamed in the new millennium, but there are still vestiges of it appearing in the everyday adventures you can enjoy while here. Maybe you will recognize certain outcroppings as the backdrop to your favorite Western, or maybe you will spend some time at Blazin’ M Ranch in nearby Cottonwood, soaking up the retro atmosphere of the vintage Western town. We think your favorite activity will be riding horses through the countryside, courtesy of Horsin’ Around Arizona, located at 2650 Dancing Apache Road in our neighboring town of Cornville. Offering a variety of rides through some of the most stunning landscapes in the state, their customized experiences will bring you a passion for the West, the countryside, and the gentle steed you sit astride. This adventure starts at $139 per person and is only for guests aged 7 or older.

Offroad Adventures for the Thrill Seekers

There are plenty of jeep tours that will take you off the beaten path, exploring all that makes Sedona the most wonderful place on earth, but for the thrill-seekers in our midst, an offroad tour spent exploring that same countryside from the seat of an ATV or behind the wheel of an UTV will appeal to your daredevil soul. Sedona Off Road Center offers rental UTVs and RZRs for solo adventures that can be as short as two hours or take up an entire day and will never be forgotten. Families with children under 5 will need to find other ways to get their thrills, and drivers must be 21 or over and have a valid driver’s license. They also offer ATV tours where knowledgeable guides will lead the expedition through the Sedona countryside; drivers must have a valid learner’s permit to drive, but ages 5 and over can ride as a passenger. And finally, Sedona Off Road Center also provides jeep safari tours, with their milder tours accepting children as young as two years old and their more rugged and wild tours accepting riders that are 3 years of age and up. This cool company has something for everyone to enjoy!

Endless Opportunities for Outdoor Fun

Today, we have just touched on some of our favorite outdoor adventures, but there is a world of fun just waiting to be had during your Sedona travels. Mountain biking or hiking along the many trails that traverse the valley, hanging out at Slide Rock State Park and riding the state’s only natural waterslide, even enjoying a picnic in the shadow of Cathedral Rock at Crescent Moon Ranch—every adventure will be your favorite, especially when all roads taken lead you back to the comfortable escapes that Sedona.Org is famous for supplying. Wash off the grime of the mountain bike trails under rain shower heads, soak away the aches of muscles not used to hiking in hot tubs or deep tubs, and on the hottest of summer days, chilling poolside may be the outdoor activity in Sedona you love the most.
