Are you an organized, list-making packer who starts packing weeks before your actual vacation and makes sure you have included things to cover every situation? Or are you a wait-until-the-last-minute and throw a bunch of stuff in your suitcase and end up buying underwear and deodorant on your trip because you forgot to pack them kind of traveler? Either way, our list of what to pack by season is designed to help you fill that suitcase with the necessities for an unforgettable Sedona vacation, and hopefully, it will help stop you from having to buy the forgotten or unexpected items upon your arrival as well.
Winter Months
Winter in Sedona can get chilly but is still relatively warm compared to the rest of the country. Daytime highs in the 50s and 60s allow you to get away with wearing tee shirts and jeans as you explore the vortexes of Sedona. Nighttime lows of the 30s and 40s mean you will probably want to pack sweaters and jackets or spend a lot of time cuddling with the one you love next to the fireplace in your Sedona Vacation Rental home. Bring a hat, sunglasses, and comfortable shoes for walking as well; you will want to spend a lot of time outside enjoying the contrast of snow-tipped mountains against a red rock background. This is a great time to visit, as it is our slowest time of year as far as a tourist activity.
Spring Months
Spring starts early in Sedona, bringing mild temperatures during the day and chilly temperatures at night (think 60s through 80s during the day and 40s through 60s at night). Layers are what’s called for during this period of time—tee shirts and light jackets during the day, long sleeves and heavier coats at night. This is our high tourist season, so be prepared for lots of people and extended waits at restaurants. Again, comfortable shoes, sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen should be in your suitcase when you visit this time of year.
Summer Months
Tourist activity drops in Sedona during the summer, but this is actually a wonderful time to visit. While it gets hot, the temperatures do not get anywhere near as high as they do in the lower elevations of Phoenix or Tucson; average day time highs stay in the 90s, while nighttime temperatures drop to a wonderfully cool 60+ degrees. Shorts and tank tops will be perfect attire for the days, but you will want to bring jeans and light sweaters for the night if you are prone to getting cold easily. If the days get a little warm for you, take a side trip to Flagstaff, where the weather is generally just perfect, with highs in only the 70s and 80s. If you stay in Sedona and plan to do any hiking, comfortable hiking shoes, hats, sunglasses, sunscreen, and extra water is recommended.
Fall Months
We saved the best for last, in our opinion, as fall is our favorite time of year. The daytime temperatures range from the 80s in early Fall to the 60s in late Fall, with nighttime temperatures ranging from the 60s early and dropping to the 40s later. Leaves are changing, complementing the red rocks Sedona is so famous for, and you can almost smell apples and cinnamon wafting through the air. Outside activities are made so much more enjoyable when conducted in crisp Autumn weather, and as in spring, layers are the answer to your clothing dilemmas. Short and long-sleeved tees, light jackets, jeans, and hiking boots or shoes are recommended. The sun is still strong, so hats, sunglasses, and sunscreen are good options as well. Sandals can be worn pretty much year-round here in the daytime, but should not be worn while hiking; the outlying areas can be rugged.
