Slide Rock State Park, 6871 AZ-89A
If you have followed Sedona.Org for more than a minute you have probably heard us mention Slide Rock at least a few times, but the centuries old “swim hole” has cooled the bodies of locals and tourists for at least as long as it has existed. Home to the state’s longest natural waterslide, the waters, even in August, remain chilly and clear and a morning slide will be one of the memories you cherish forever when you return home. Also offering historic cabins to explore and fresh-picked apples that are a remnant of the time this area spent as an apple farm/orchard (The trees are historic, the apples that fall from those trees were picked fresh this week!), the park is a great place to explore on a cooler August morning.

As the air conditioning in our cars works extremely well, we often take afternoon drives, exploring the towns around us. Additionally, we have learned that Rabia LLC Old Town Market, 802 N Main Street in Cottonwood, #1 Sandwich Shop, 755 AZ-89A in Clarkdale, and Timberline Ice Cream, 2710 N Steve’s Boulevard in Flagstaff, all have yummy ice cream that helps us cool down on the hottest days. They provide us a destination spot on our random drives, but if we don’t want to go that far but still want a sweet and frosty treat, Rocky RD Ice Cream Co, 2055 AZ-89A right here in Sedona, is the doorstep we often find ourselves standing at!
Cold Beer, Arizona Wines, and a Good Meal
When it is just too hot to play outside, sipping a cold beer at Oak Creek Brewery and Grill, 336 AZ-179, a good wine at Winery 1912, 320 AZ-89A, or enjoying a fantastic meal at the Hideaway House, 213 AZ-179, gives us amnesia over the weather. The winery and the restaurant are famed for their stunning views, you can still enjoy the beauty of the landscape while staying cool, and the Brewery is in the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, so you may find yourself dipping into some of the stores while there!
