As summer draws to a close we find ourselves sad in some ways (the child in us will always love those carefree days) and excited in others (Sedona in the fall is about as perfect as perfect can get), but we know that however we feel at the moment, celebrating Labor Day will always give us a boost. And if a boost is what your mood needs, the long weekend can be incorporated into a weeklong getaway spent exploring all that makes our red rock town famous all over the world, while examining all the comforts of home in our Sedona.org holiday hideaways. This guide to the top must-do Sedona Labor Day activities will surely lighten your mood and give you something wonderful to look forward to as summer passes by in the blink of an eye!

Shopping at Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, 336 AZ-179

Shopping while on vacation is a tradition that we hope never goes away, and although there will be many, many shops for you to explore during your Sedona adventures, if you don’t visit Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, you might find yourself questioning what you are doing with your life! This walled village offers art galleries and toy shops, restaurants and snack spots, and even a Christmas store that is open year-round. Feeling thirsty after meandering through this excitingly different mall? Oak Creek Brewery & Grill offers premium beers brewed onsite and its wine, food, and cocktails aren’t so shabby either! For those seeking an unusual wedding venue, Tlaquepaque has hosted some of the most beautiful weddings that we have ever attended and we can assure you that starting your new life as one at this wonderful place will set the stage for many years of wedded bliss.

Oak Creek Arts & Craft Show, August 29 Through August 31, Sedona Vista Village

We’re not bragging when we say the most talented artists in the world make their home in our red rock village, and if you don’t believe us, we think you will change your tune when you visit the Oak Creek Arts & Craft Show, held Labor Day weekend. Offering a stunning selection of Native American art, live music that will have you tapping your toes and singing along with the show, and a variety of food and beverage vendors that are sure to offer a dish that will pique your interest and start your tummy growling.

Walk in the Steps of the Ancients With These Sedona Labor Day Activities

Somewhere over 100 years ago, the Sinagua people settled into this area. They lived here, worked here, played here, and even though they disappeared or migrated elsewhere 650 years ago (stories are conflicting on how they left), they left their marks and you can visit and explore where their abandoned dwellings are in the locations listed below. Short road trips are required, but trust us, it is worth every mile you drive!

Tuzigoot National Monument, 25 Tuzigoot Road in Clarkdale

Located just 20 miles outside of Sedona in the town of Clarksdale, Tuzigoot National Monument offers the chance to get up close and personal with the Sinagua people, leading visitors on a self-guided “hike” (more like a casual walk) through the ruins of their 900-year-old pueblo. Most are simply a pile of stones left in the shape of the spaces they lived in, but there are some complete rooms that you will be able to enter, offering a peek into what life must have been like all those years ago. Interpretive signs along the trail will give you a deeper understanding, and views of the Tavasci Marsh will make you fall in love with this area. Tickets cost $10 per person but are also good for the next exploration of history.

Montezuma Castle National Monument, Montezuma Castle Road in Camp Verde

Located just 28 miles outside of Sedona, Montezuma Castle National Monument offers a different perspective on the ruins left by the Sinagua people. These ruins are carved out of limestone cliffs, perched high above the land to offer safety from whatever dangers they may have faced. You won’t be able to get inside these miraculously maintained spaces, but a visitor center museum shows what it looks like. Additionally, the shaded walk around the grounds, past Beaver Creek, which was more than likely their only source of water, offers a pleasant way to spend a quiet afternoon appreciating both nature and history.
