The holidays are a wonderful time to get together with family and friends in the name of celebration, but they are just as perfect for making plans to get out of town as a group and explore some incredible destinations! When Easter rolls around, take some time to head to Sedona, Arizona where warm weather, exceptional beauty, and fun-filled activities await. While Sedona is a sensational spot to visit no matter what time of year you arrive, Easter in Sedona provides options for ideal weather and fewer crowds than the summer months, making it a great escape from your everyday routine that allows you to take in sights unlike anywhere else in the United States.

Sedona Celebration of Spring

At Posse Grounds Park in West Sedona Easter is celebrated in family-fun style with the annual Sedona Celebration of Spring. Open from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm, this springtime celebration which will be held on April 20th invites guests of all ages to come and enjoy carnival rides, games, food vendors and even a petting zoo! Easter in Sedona just wouldn’t be the same without an official Easter egg hunt, so children looking forward to this event will want to arrive before 10:00 when the hunt begins. Over 21,000 Easter eggs are hidden across the grounds, making this an exceptionally wonderful hunt for those enthusiastic searchers! Pictures are encouraged at this event which only costs $5 for children 12 and under and is free admission for adults.

Easter Bunny Express

The Verde Canyon Railroad is proud to present its annual Easter Bunny Express experience when the holiday is in full swing. Children and adults have the opportunity to meet and take pictures with the Easter bunny himself before hopping aboard and enjoying a wonderful ride through the canyon with plenty of sweets on hand to give the trip some savory flair. A trip on this historic train follows a scenic route that gives guests of all ages a glimpse at the incredible landscapes that make up this beautiful area.

Reds Restaurant

Tucked into the Sedona Rouge Hotel and Spa, Reds Restaurant is a well-known culinary hot spot in the city that often provides guests with Easter in Sedona specials not to be missed. Make a reservation and come and enjoy everything from chicken tortilla soup to fresh salads on the outdoor patio for a taste and view that will be unforgettable.

Spiritual Encounters

We are all very blessed to live in an age where we can appreciate each and everyone’s take on religious holidays and experiences. While the traditional celebration of Easter may not be for everyone, Sedona is a truly spiritual place that invites people from all walks of life to share and appreciate the birth of new life. As such, you don’t want to miss out on these unique experiences that hold a special sense of wonderment any time of year, but especially in the spring when trees and flowers are blooming, and the energy of the season is alight.

Chapel of the Holy Cross is an awe-inspiring church that sits at the top of the towering red rocks. The unique architecture of this church, built in 1956, connects it to a twin pinnacled spur about 250 feet high, jutting out a 1,000-foot rock wall and making it “solid as the rock of Peter.” While the church no longer practices a regular mass schedule at this location, visitors are encouraged to peruse the grounds in contemplative silence, soaking in the awe-inspiring artwork present throughout. Soak in the breathtaking views of Oak Creek Canyon budding with new life and light a candle in prayer for the loved ones you think about during this special season. Conclude your tour with a visit to the gift shop where original pieces completed by local artists are on sale; truly you can find something special to commemorate your special Easter holiday this year.

Another spiritual landmark not to be missed is the Amitabha Stupa and Peace Park. Nestled into the beautiful red rocks at the foot of Thunder Mountain, the stunning architecture of this gorgeous park is adorned with colorful peace flags. The Amitabha stupa itself rises 36-feet into the air and is filled to the brim with sacred relics that line the interior. Though these relics are not visible to the naked eye, this structure is truly a vessel containing otherworldly powers. Long recognized as a holy ground by many of the native tribes in the area, Buddhists have also come to acknowledge this 14-acre park as a sacred space that holds the power of spiritual healing and transformation. This park is especially beautiful in the spring when high desert botanicals are blooming and new wildlife, such as roadrunners, lizards, and birds of prey are out and about.
