Every holiday offers the perfect time to visit Sedona and relax in our luxurious Sedona.Org holiday havens, and with fall breaks beginning to be a big thing in schools, a Halloween visit could be just what you need to get in the holiday mood. Offering cool days, cooler nights, and a spooktacular array of fun Sedona Halloween activities, every minute will be filled with fun and excitement, and your children won’t look in askance at the idea of traveling when you show them all the best places they can trick-or-treat while in town. This guide will help you give them a chilling good time that won’t be too frightening for your tiniest travelers, and we can promise that even if you choose to visit haunted houses while you are here, our properties come completely ghost-free!
The Great Pumpkin Splash, October 19, 2-5 PM, Posse Grounds Park Community Pool
Offering a sneak peek into the holiday festivities, the Great Pumpkin Splash offers a unique twist on the standard pumpkin patch as the pumpkins you will pick are floating in the Community Pool! Offering treats, games, and a table on which you can paint the pumpkin of your choice, the only costume you will need is a swimsuit, so it isn’t a traditional trick-or-treating event, but we can assure you there will be candy!
Sedona Halloween Activities at the Halloween Trunk or Treat, October 31, 4-7 PM, Cottonwood Recreation Center in Cottonwood
Parents can feel uncertain about setting their kids free in unfamiliar neighborhoods, but this family friendly event located in nearby Cottonwood promises to be safe, fun, and of course, candy filled. Every year features a new theme (which hasn’t been released for 2024 yet), but that’s ok, because your independent tiny travelers already have a costume idea in mind and won’t be swayed by the crowds. Offering a parking lot filled with decorated cars, your kids will never be far from sight as they meander from trunk to trunk filling up their goodie bags at each spot. This event is a free one, making parents even happier.
Safe Trick-or-treating in Clarkdale, October 31, 5-7 PM, Main Street
We just want to make sure you have plenty of options for trick-or-treating during your Sedona getaway, ensuring that you don’t receive side-eye from your ghouls or goblins for considering skipping Halloween, and the safe trick-or-treating event held in nearby Clarkdale is just that. Last year’s event attracted over 1500 kids in the upper Clarkdale streets, which is the area surrounding the Town Park and Gazebo. This event is another free one, allowing parents to save money for souvenirs or other adventures.
Fright Night on the Haunted Phantom Train, Verde Canyon Railroad in Clarkdale, Friday & Saturday Nights Starting September 27
Ok, technically this next event isn’t a trick-or-treating one, but we think its spooky thrills deserve an honorable mention. The Verde Canyon Railroad in Clarkdale offers Fright Night on the Haunted Phantom Train, the state’s only haunted railroad car, and we can promise this event is a blast! Featuring a haunted maze, zombies, deranged clowns, and a host of truly terrifying activities, we don’t recommend this event for families with very young children unless you really want to deal with nightmares for the next few years of your life! Tickets cost $25 per person and snacks and beverages will be available for purchase.
Uptown Trick-or-Treat, October 31, 5-8 PM, Uptown Sedona
Safety matters when it comes to our most precious family members, and Uptown Trick-or-Treat is sponsored by local businesses to ensure that your baby ghouls and goblins have a fun time without having to worry about their wellbeing. The trick-or-treat route can be found on the Sedona government web page, and participating stores will have signs stating they are on the trail. The event is free and parents will have the opportunity to do a little window shopping as their costumed adventurers beg for treats.
Your Sedona.Org Neighborhood
Of course, the best trick-or-treating may take place in the neighborhood in which your holiday hideaway is located. Safe family neighborhoods provide the best candy, and because they are within walking distance of your home sweet vacation home, you won’t have to travel far with a sleepy princess on your shoulders. And after you have tucked away the very tired littles, parents can binge-watch horror movies on state-of-the-art televisions while sneaking a few candies from the goody bags. And for the sake of informational purposes only, we have done the research and discovered that chocolate candies pair best with red wines and fruity candies pair wonderfully with white wines.
