Thanksgiving is a holiday that is both loved and hated by hardworking Americans from all over the nation. It is loved for its celebration of thankfulness, family, and food, but it can be hated for its proximity to Christmas, the work and expense involved, and yes, family. We all have that one (or more) family member that is never satisfied; the turkey is too dry, the stuffing is too moist, the forks don’t sparkle enough, and really, Susan, your kids are far too feral! When the need to not just get away, but to RUN away arises at Thanksgiving, we at Sedona.Org invite you to look in our direction, choosing to take your holiday journey to our red rock town will bring you serenity, happy family memories, and many, many more things for which to be thankful this Thanksgiving in Sedona.
Are Those Views for Real?
You have probably seen the beauty of Sedona in the movies you have watched, but until you see it in person, you just won’t be able to believe that all that color and magic is real. Our homes and condos are strategically placed in the shadows of the most famous red rock formations, and whether you can see Cathedral Rock, Coffee Pot Rock, or Bell Rock from the windows of your Sedona sanctuary or just some other stunning rock formation, the serenity and magic they bring will be the second item on your list of thankful things. (We know your family is number one on that list!)
You’ve worked hard this year, and when the day after Thanksgiving dawns bright and beautiful, the Christmas crush will begin, so take plenty of moments in the early part of your trip to soak in the serenity of those views. Windows all through the house will perfectly frame all the best views, and of course, the views from the patios, balconies, and decks will be even better!
Hobnobbing with the Big Names Over Dinner
No, we aren’t suggesting you invite to dinner some of the celebrities that take joy in the magic of Sedona, we are simply talking about the big-name appliances you will find in our luxuriously appointed kitchens. The names you have always dreamed of, Viking, Bosch, SubZero and so much more may be resting in their assigned places in the heart of the home, and if you decide that you still want to follow the tradition of creating the family meal, they will bring an extra serving of joy to your Thanksgiving feast. It really is a pleasure puttering around a kitchen in which all the details are considered most important, and as you share the secret ingredients to your favorite holiday meals with the next generation, roll out pie crust on stone counters, and the scents of wonderful fill the house, your feast will be one that will never be forgotten.
The walk from the kitchen to dining room will be a short one, as gracious and welcoming dining rooms will be located just steps away, and as you go back and forth for second helpings, another bottle of wine, and of course, the piece de resistance, homemade pumpkin pie, your day of family, food, and fun will be one that may make you start a new family tradition of taking turkey day in peaceful Sedona.
All About the Family
Our Sedona.Org properties were designed for families, and even as you take the big step of celebrating far from home, you will find that you will still feel at home as you explore all that makes our holiday hideaways wonderful. Waking up early and sitting with a cup of coffee out on the deck may be a new experience, especially with the landscape that appears before you, but turning on the state-of-the-art television in the living room and watching the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade is a tradition you won’t have to skip. Our televisions will be so large and so clear, don’t be surprised if you feel like you are actually at the parade, not just watching it from the comfort of your vacation rental! And of course, football follows the parade, quite possibly followed by the first of the Christmas movies. In between, there will be laughter, games played, maybe even some time spent soaking in the hot tub. At the end of the day, your family adventures will be the ones you talk about for years to come, becoming precious memories that you will cherish.

Owning a vacation rental in Sedona is about as close to winning the lottery as possible, but there can be some complications if you aren’t careful, complications you can avoid simply by following this guide we have created. Sedona.Org is the first name in vacation rentals, and we have been doing this for a very long time, learning more than a few things about the business, and because we like to be helpful, we enjoy sharing what we have learned, especially this selection of tips that will make your Sedona rental stand out. With thousands of rentals being offered every day, there is a lot of competition out there, and if you want your biggest investment to draw the biggest ROI, getting your property seen is probably one of the most important tips we can offer. Below, we have listed many hints on how to do just that!
Take Photographer Quality Photos
There is an entire TikTok community dedicated to poor listing photos, and even though they mostly refer to homes for sale, the same issues can apply to vacation rental properties. You obviously know not to post crime scene photos or photos in which you appear in the mirror, but what about blurry pictures? We are always surprised at how many blurry or otherwise poor quality pictures are offered on listings trying to convince people that there is where they should stay. And if you aren’t a great photographer, it can make all the difference in the world hiring one, ensuring that your gem of a rental in Sedona is always showing her best side to the world.
Update Your Photos and Your Design Choices Regularly
Look at pictures of you from 10 years ago. Do you still look the same today? Of course, you don’t, and neither should your property. Styles change in fashion and décor, and 10 years ago, the popular décor was all white everything with the occasional accent wall, usually wallpapered. Today, darker, warmer colors are coming into fashion, and in vacation rentals, warmer is always the better choice. How did we keep all that white sparkling, and then how did gray seem to become the better choice? If you haven’t changed your décor in over 10 years, it is time to take another look at your design choices and update the photos on your listing. We all know that there is nothing worse than walking into a space that looked new and pristine in the pictures, only to discover that it is old, tired, and dingy in real life!
Prepare Your Guests for a Luxury Experience
It’s our job to browse vacation rental listings, to explore the competition, and to see what is new out there, and one of the things we love to find (and are sure to offer in our own listings) is photos that demonstrate a luxury vacation experience. Tell a story with your pictures. Take pictures that encompass the entire space, then focus in on an overstuffed chair placed near the fireplace (with the fire flickering, of course), a book open and placed pages down on the seat of the chair, and a steaming cup of tea resting on the small table next to the chair. The first picture lets guests see all the amenities you offer (leather sofas, fireplaces, state of the art televisions, and expansive windows showing the views of the red rocks) and the second photo tells a beautiful story of comfort and relaxation, with not a single word needing to be spoken. (Or written in this case!) We’ve seen it all at this stage in our professional lives, but that one picture makes US want to rent a place that was just an example that we used, and we can assure you, potential guests will too.
Don’t Cheap Out
If you want to draw top dollar for your rental, you have to spend more money, and believe us, guests will know when you don’t. It really is worth it to spend more on a dining room table that is sturdy and well-made, not just for the guests, but because it will last longer and end up costing you less in the long run. Sofas, beds, even appliances, and electronics are instrumental in attracting guests, and just like in real life, when you dress for success, dressing your spaces for success will keep your ROI climbing higher.
Additionally, many guests may not be able to afford the high-end furnishings, the name-brand appliances and electronics, and will be willing to spend more just to be able to play more luxuriously. They want to be spoiled, they want to be pampered, and they want to see if that Viking range really is as magnificent as the advertising world claims it to be, and if your property offers one, you can bet they will be clicking on the book now button immediately!
Utilize Technology
Technology in the rental business has gotten crazy good over the years, and that includes the way we market our properties. Back in the old days, marketing consisted of expensive flyers mailed to repeat guests, full page ads in newspapers and magazines, and full page listings in the yellow pages. We relied on word of mouth for the majority of our marketing purposes, but today, all the rules have changed.
New vacation rental websites are popping up every day, in addition to the ones you already know, including Airbnb, VRBO, and Booking.com. Also gaining in popularity are metasearch engines (HomeToGo) and niche platforms such as BringFido, which informs dog owners of all the activities, restaurants, service places, and housing providers that allow dogs. This technology is a boon for vacation rentals, and adding your own website and email marketing plan to the mix will get your vacation rental listing in front of ALL the eyes, boosting your rental booking rates!
Now That Your Listing Is Standing Out, It’s Time to Work on the Vacation Experience
So far we have mostly discussed all the ways to make your listing stand out, but once you’ve been seen, their interest has been piqued, and the booking is made, you want to make your guest’s vacation experience stand out. The best vacations begin and end in the best vacation rentals, and you want yours to be the one everyone flocks to, so we’ve added some hints and tips on how to make the vacation experiences stand out.
Pristine Properties
There are so many ways a vacation experience can be ruined, and staying in a property that is less than clean should be at the very top of your list. Sticky floors, dusty shelves, even dust bunnies hopping around under beds can be a turn off, so be sure to clean in the areas you don’t normally think about as well. And just because you think that the dishes in the dishwasher look clean, your prior guests were being kind and ran a load before leaving, what if they just rinsed them off really well? Nothing is worse than pulling a fork with dried food out of the silverware drawer or not noticing lipstick that you aren’t wearing lining the rim of the glass you are already drinking out of, so just to be safe, run that load again and examine every piece you take out before putting it away. Your guests may not actually notice that the grout is white and the mirrors are sparkling, but they WILL notice if they aren’t!
Be Your Own Guest
If this is your first rental, you may not know all the things necessary to create a serene and luxurious retreat, but if you stay there for a few nights, you may notice all the things you have missed. Just live there in the way you live in vacation rentals all over the world and discover again the importance of fresh batteries, extra blankets, and having enough dishes and chairs for the entire family. Again, these are all items that your guests may not notice while living under your roof, but if the batteries are dead, a sudden cold snap hits and shivering ensues, or any of the other things we have mentioned here today occurs, they will take notice and you can count on that a return stay will not be in the cards.
Share Your Knowledge with Your Guests
This may be the first time your guests will visit Sedona, and you want them to experience everything that makes our red rock town one of the top vacation destinations in the world, and providing a detailed guide will do just that. They want more than internet passwords and menus from local pizza joints, and your years of living and loving Sedona can ensure that they get the more they deserve. Serve as a concierge of sorts, letting them know the inside story on the best special occasion restaurants, the coolest vortexes, the most exciting jeep tours; there is so much that makes this part of the world so very magical, and your guide can lead them to all the best parts of town. If you do have your own website, this is something you can build over time, adding blogs and content that tell the whole story, acting as your own SEO manager as you share your Sedona sanctuary with the world of vacationers.

Sedona is one of those rare places where you do not need to pay for a tour or an attraction to have an unforgettable experience. With its stunning red rock landscapes, vibrant local culture, and peaceful energy, Sedona offers plenty to explore year-round without ever pulling out your wallet. Whether you’re looking to hike, relax, or soak in some scenery, these free Sedona activities will give you a full taste of Sedona.
Take in the Views at Airport Mesa
Airport Mesa is one of Sedona’s most iconic spots for panoramic views. Just a short drive from town, this scenic overlook gives you a full sweep of the red rock formations Sedona is famous for. People come here all day, but sunrise and sunset are the best times to visit. You can see the changing colors of the rocks, the shadows stretching across the valley, and the whole town glowing in golden light. It’s also a popular vortex site, so don’t be surprised if you see people meditating or doing yoga while you’re there.
Hike Cathedral Rock Trail
Sedona is packed with beautiful trails, and one of the most well-known is Cathedral Rock. The trail is short but steep, and you will get some of the most rewarding views around. Once you reach the saddle, you’ll understand why it’s such a popular hike. The views out toward Bell Rock and Courthouse Butte are picture perfect, and the climb itself is a fun challenge. If you want something more relaxed, you can start from the Baldwin Trailhead and hike along Oak Creek for a more mellow experience.
Visit the Chapel of the Holy Cross
The Chapel of the Holy Cross is both a religious site and an architectural marvel. Built right into the red rock cliffs, this unique chapel offers incredible views and a peaceful place to reflect. There’s no charge to visit, and you don’t need to be religious to appreciate the design and setting. Step inside for a few quiet moments, then take a walk around the outside to soak in the views. The surrounding landscape is beautiful, and it’s a great place to stop on your way to other nearby trails.
Cool Off at Oak Creek
During the warmer months, Oak Creek is a local favorite. Whether you want to wade in the water, lounge on the banks, or explore the shaded trails that follow the creek, it’s the perfect place to take a break. Red Rock Crossing is one of the best access points. It’s where the classic postcard view of Cathedral Rock reflecting in the water was taken. You can bring a picnic, dip your feet in the creek, and enjoy the cooler temps under the trees. It’s peaceful, scenic, and free.
Wander Through Tlaquepaque Arts and Shopping Village
Even if you’re not in the mood to shop, Tlaquepaque is worth a stroll. This open-air village was designed to feel like a traditional Mexican plaza, and it’s full of art galleries, sculptures, fountains, and winding stone pathways. You can spend an hour or two just walking around and admiring the work of local artists. There’s often live music or small events happening throughout the year. It’s a beautiful, quiet space that invites you to slow down and just enjoy the atmosphere.
Discover the Vortex Sites
Sedona is known for its energy vortexes, and whether or not you buy into the spiritual side, the spots themselves are worth visiting. Bell Rock, Boynton Canyon, Airport Mesa, and Cathedral Rock are all considered major vortex sites. People come from around the world to meditate, practice yoga, or just enjoy the stillness in these areas. You don’t need a guide or a pass. Just show up, walk the trail, and see what you feel. Even if you don’t pick up on the energy, the views alone are reason enough to go.

Purchasing real estate is one of the top investment activities, and when you live in, or are exploring purchasing in, an area known for its tourism, purchasing real estate for vacation rental purposes trumps all. The town of Sedona is one of those spots, its red rock landscape and mystical vibe making it a top 20 vacation destination spot and practically guaranteeing that investors will have an easier time garnering a higher ROI on their investment. If you are in the process of purchasing a vacation rental in Sedona, you may have some questions, especially if you don’t live in the area, and because we at Sedona.Org know it is still possible to be less than successful owning a vacation rental in town, we have created this ultimate guide to owning a vacation rental in Sedona.
Why Sedona?
There are so many reasons why choosing Sedona for your next Sedona vacation rental property is a great idea that we hardly know where to begin, but let’s start at the top. Sedona is ranked number 12 in the US in popularity as a vacation destination, and each year an estimated three million tourists flock to our doorstep. Some are day visitors, of course, but the large majority of tourists are looking for a place to stay, and your property could be the one they flock to the most! Of course, because the demand is great, you know there will be a lot of investors supplying properties, and when you partner with Sedona.Org, you don’t have to worry about getting lost in the crowd! We live here, work here, and play here, and we know all the best ways to ensure that your property will be the popular one in the neighborhood, the one that everyone wants to visit! Even more important, choosing a Sedona vacation rental increases your chance of receiving a higher return on your investment.
What Type of Rental Is Best?
The good thing about our red rock town is that all types of vacation properties are needed, so you can’t go wrong with the choice you make. Honeymooners love this part of the world, so small casitas, cabins, or bungalows are always at a premium. On the other end of the spectrum, Sedona is a place that large groups like to visit, so a sprawling estate stocked with all the luxury amenities is equally popular. And everywhere in between, there are guests for every type of rental, which is one reason this Arizona town is popular with vacation rental investors. At our last accounting there were nearly 5000 vacation rentals in town, and that number does not include hotels or motels. (See what we mean about potentially getting lost in the crowd?)
Where Is the Best Area in Sedona to Operate a Vacation Rental?
There really aren’t too many bad parts of Sedona, so almost anywhere you find a potential rental property can be a good one, but the two most well-known and desired areas are Uptown Sedona and West Sedona, which offer two distinctively different personalities. Uptown Sedona is preferred by travelers who prefer to be in the thick of it all, offering quick and convenient access to the best shops, restaurants, and even tour companies. West Sedona, however, offers a more laidback vibe, a slower pace, and appeals to hikers and those who are looking for a more natural experience. Some other popular areas include Sunset Hills (a very peaceful neighborhood also known for its countryside and relaxing vibe), Oak Creek (appealing to those seeking a home near a water source while also offering proximity to golf courses), and any home that is located off the Red Rock Loop. Private, relaxing, and so tranquil, if you can find a property in this part of town you should definitely snatch it up. Additionally, no matter where you purchase, it is vital that there are views of the red rocks from somewhere within the property.
Why Choose a Vacation Rental Property Management Company?
Why it may seem like a no brainer to purchase a home in one of the popular neighborhoods in Sedona and start advertising its availability, while waiting for the money to start raining from the sky, there are potential errors that can be made that can keep you from succeeding. We don’t want you to fail in any way, and so below we have listed some of the main reasons you may want to partner with a vacation rental property management company.
You Don’t Live Anywhere Near Sedona
The thing about purchasing an investment property is that the best property may not be located anywhere near your hometown. As beautiful as your hometown may be, and as much as you love it, we can be pretty sure there aren’t a lot of people visiting Washington Court House in Ohio. And yes, that’s a very real and very charming town, we’re not dissing it, we’re just saying it’s not a prime tourist spot. So, it’s only natural that you have started to branch out, seeking a home in the most popular vacation destinations, and Sedona became a very real opportunity.
But how do you take care of cleaning, maintenance, and major problems when you are located thousands of miles away from your rental? The internet has truly made the world a much smaller place, but you’re going to need a team of people to handle all that needs to be done, and you probably don’t have a lot of contacts. Hiring a vacation property management company is the best way to develop contacts, and different companies offer different programs, allowing you to participate as much or as little in the management process as you desire.
Do You Know the Laws, Rules, and Regulations for Rental Property Ownership?
One of the worst things an investor can do is disregard the laws, rules, and regulations created for rental property ownership, especially as the fines and fees potentially associated with your disinterest in learning or following the rules can prohibitively affect your ROI and possibly lose you your vacation rental privileges. Did you know that you must be licensed and permitted before you open for business, that you need to notify the neighbors of your intent to operate a vacation rental business, or that property owners must collect and pay Transaction Privilege Taxes in the state of Arizona? Chances are you didn’t, and if you disregard any of this, there can be very high fines you will have to pay.
You Don’t Have the Time
There is a lot going on behind the scenes when operating a vacation rental, and even if you do live in Sedona, do you really have the time? From cleaning and maintenance to dealing with those middle-of-the-night phone calls, there is always something that needs to be handled, and if you are working full-time or just aren’t interested in overextending yourself, your rental will fail. Hiring a property management company means you are handing over the ties that bind and freeing yourself, enabling you to live your life unencumbered as your rental property continues to work to make your financial future bright.
Why Choose Sedona.Org for Your Vacation Property Management Needs?
Just as there are millions of vacationers looking for rentals and thousands of properties available for rent, there are probably an equal number of vacation property management companies seeking your business. And because we know you need to do your research before signing on the dotted line, we’ve listed these reasons that choosing Sedona.Org is the right choice for you and your property.
No One Knows the Market Better
We’ve spent many years researching the vacation rental market, exploring the best neighborhoods, following the fluctuations in pricing rentals, and of course, studying the laws, rules, and regulations for operating a vacation rental. And because the market is a fluid one, the research never ends. Just because the average price today may be between $360 and $500 per night, it doesn’t mean that we won’t wake up tomorrow and discover that it is now between $500 and $750 per night. We want to make sure that you are charging the Goldilocks amount (the just right price) every day, because we know that it would be throwing away your money if we didn’t. Additionally, when it comes to rules, regulations, and taxes, you have to know that THAT is always changing, and it is imperative that we know all the changes as they happen to ensure your property is up to date on everything. The constant research we do aids in the process of keeping your property rented.
No One Knows the Area Better
Owning a rental property is more than costs, designs, cleanliness, and upkeep; your guests want a more personal experience, one that may also include concierge services. As we have stated before, we don’t just work here, we live here, we play here, and we are passionate about sharing our knowledge of the area with the travelers who check in and out of the rentals we manage every day. It is fun for us to be able to point out that while Elote is a restaurant that is ideal for a romantic night out, families on a budget may prefer the more down-to-earth prices of Café Jose, and when we share this info, we aren’t just reading something off the internet, we’ve dined at both restaurants! We love our hometown, and we share our love with anyone who wants to listen, and quite often it is the guests who are most excited about doing the listening.
We Are the Voice on the Other End of the Line in an Emergency
Observing regular business hours is all well and good, but emergencies can’t be scheduled, and when the entry code to the door isn’t working for your guest after staying out at the bars until closing, do you really want their distress call to go to voicemail to be handled during regular business hours? Storms seem to be stronger at night, causing more damage, and if a tree limb goes through a window, it isn’t fair to expect your guests to wait until 9AM to get it fixed. Emergencies are called emergencies for a reason, and your guests, all guests everywhere, want a live voice on the other end of the line when one arises, and we are quite thrilled to be that voice.
Our Teams Are Trustworthy and Proven
At the end of the day, it takes a team to run a successful business, and yes, that includes your vacation rental property. Could you do everything all by yourself? Possibly, if you have the time, computer knowledge, photography skills, and of course, maintenance and housekeeping skills, which if you do, we are properly awed and respect that you can very likely handle the running of your rental all on your own. But most mortals do not have all of those talents and skills, and hiring a good team can make all the difference in the outcome of your investment venture. We have housekeeping, maintenance, and design teams that keep the process going smoothly and when you hire us for your team, you have access to all the trustworthy individuals we have hired over the years. Our teams trust us, and we trust our teams to go above and beyond when it comes to maintaining your property.

(A siesta after lunch will help refresh your flailing energy) Below, we have listed some of our favorite August morning activities, so feel free to peruse at your leisure.
Slide Rock State Park, 6871 AZ-89A
If you have followed Sedona.Org for more than a minute you have probably heard us mention Slide Rock at least a few times, but the centuries old “swim hole” has cooled the bodies of locals and tourists for at least as long as it has existed. Home to the state’s longest natural waterslide, the waters, even in August, remain chilly and clear and a morning slide will be one of the memories you cherish forever when you return home. Also offering historic cabins to explore and fresh-picked apples that are a remnant of the time this area spent as an apple farm/orchard (The trees are historic, the apples that fall from those trees were picked fresh this week!), the park is a great place to explore on a cooler August morning.
Shopping Adventures in Sedona
Whether you visit Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village (a must!) or the shops that line the streets of Sedona, shopping is a great adventure to enjoy, especially in the morning hours. As locals, we may not hit all the shops you will during your visit, but we do like to fill our homes with local art, décor items, and of course, crystals and other spiritual items. The shops will be air conditioned but dipping in and out of the heat can be tiring, so do your shopping in the morning and save your afternoons for the fun activities we suggest in the next paragraphs.
Chillin’ in the Afternoons
August afternoons in Sedona are ripe with possibility, offering a wonderful variety of ways to stay cool as the sun beats down from overhead. We locals don’t hibernate in August per se, we simply find alternatives to being outdoors, and below we have listed some of our favorite August afternoon adventures.
Scenic Drives and Ice Cream Cones
As the air conditioning in our cars works extremely well, we often take afternoon drives, exploring the towns around us. Additionally, we have learned that Rabia LLC Old Town Market, 802 N Main Street in Cottonwood, #1 Sandwich Shop, 755 AZ-89A in Clarkdale, and Timberline Ice Cream, 2710 N Steve’s Boulevard in Flagstaff, all have yummy ice cream that helps us cool down on the hottest days. They provide us a destination spot on our random drives, but if we don’t want to go that far but still want a sweet and frosty treat, Rocky RD Ice Cream Co, 2055 AZ-89A right here in Sedona, is the doorstep we often find ourselves standing at!
Cold Beer, Arizona Wines, and a Good Meal
When it is just too hot to play outside, sipping a cold beer at Oak Creek Brewery and Grill, 336 AZ-179, a good wine at Winery 1912, 320 AZ-89A, or enjoying a fantastic meal at the Hideaway House, 213 AZ-179, gives us amnesia over the weather. The winery and the restaurant are famed for their stunning views, you can still enjoy the beauty of the landscape while staying cool, and the Brewery is in the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, so you may find yourself dipping into some of the stores while there!
The Coolest Spot of All
Your Sedona.Org summer sanctuary may be the coolest spot of all, offering luxury amenities that may include pools, hot tubs, and home theater rooms, and comfortable furnishings that encourage long sessions of dedicated laziness! Reserve your favorite seasonal retreat today and discover all the ways our homes will be where many of your vacation dreams come true.
Sometimes you just need to get away when you’re feeling overwhelmed, stressed, and under appreciated in your real life, and when all those feelings take over your soul, the best place to get away to is Sedona, Arizona. Known for its spiritualism, its strong metaphysical aura, and for being a serene escape in the midst of chaos, it is almost impossible to leave Sedona not feeling recharged and at peace, but what if you only have a day to experience it? Obviously 24 hours isn’t enough to see all there is to see, to do all there is to do, or to feel all there is to feel, but it is a great start, and choosing Sedona.Org for your vacation accommodations also means you will have this guide to planning a day trip to Sedona that will never be forgotten!
Sunrise Over the Mountain
This first adventure can be accomplished on the start of your trip or at the back end of your day in Sedona, and if you just can’t force yourself to wake up that early, a mountain sunset will be every bit as fantastic. But all beginnings start at dawn, so we are going to assume that is where your adventure will begin as well. Wake early, wrap yourself in something warm (mornings can be chilly in the summer and quite frosty in the winter months), and step out on to patio, deck, or balcony, where the vast sky filled with stars is already beginning to lighten. You aren’t the only person out at this hour, but it may feel like you are, and as the world begins to awaken around you, the sound of birds cheerily singing their morning sun, the sky lightens even further, and the first appearance of colors other than black or gray begin to make their presence known, you will feel peace, followed by a quickening of your heartbeat and an overall sense of awe. The colors of sunrise in Arizona may surprise you with their vibrancy and fire, but they will be everything you never knew you needed to start out your day in Sedona.
The Choice Is Yours
At this point, you have two choices as to what you can do next. You can climb back in bed, pull the covers around your shoulders and a pillow over your head, sinking back into the land of the sandman for a couple more hours of restful sleep. Or, if the dawning of morning awakened a hunger in you, you can slip into your clothes for the day, grab the keys to your rental car, and make your way to the Coffee Pot Restaurant, 2050 W State Route 89A, where a hearty meal awaits. Your adventures in Sedona are going to need you to be fully fueled, and this iconic diner lying in the shadow of Coffeepot Rock understands your needs, providing an omelet menu with over 100 choices! Also offering a regular breakfast menu filled with morning basics including classic egg dishes, pancakes, and a Southwest selection of breakfast goodness, your biggest problem this morning may be narrowing down your dining choices to just one meal.
To Hike or Not to Hike
Now here is your first dilemma of the day. To truly experience an authentic Sedona getaway, a hike through the red rocks is highly recommended, but remember, you only have a day, and it can take up many hours to hike the trails that reveal all that makes Sedona special. Will that mean you miss out on something else? You can skip the hike altogether and start planning a return visit, one in which you have the luxury of more time, or you can hike the Bell Rock Pathway, stretching out less than a mile in total and taking you to one of our more famous red rock formations, Bell Rock. Park your car at the Bell Rock Vista Parking Area and begin your stroll (because at .8 miles, this is definitely more of a stroll than a hike) and enjoy an up close and personal view of the red rocks that you have dreamed about all your life.
A Visit to a Vortex
A vortex is thought to be a spot of swirling energy that can actually affect your mood, your health, and your emotional state, and Sedona is known to offer a large number of these fantastic energy centers. And because you can’t consider that you have visited Sedona without experiencing a vortex, the Airport Mesa Vortex, one of Sedona’s most powerful, is where we are directing you to next. The energy of the vortexes in the area can be masculine, feminine, or in this case, a balance of both, and so it is noted to offer a healing energy to those who are feeling out of balance. Getting there is easy, there is a small parking lot off Airport Mesa Road, so you will simply park and then walk up the hill and up a set of steps to reach the vortex, feeling a shift in the energy, a sense of peace and power, when you reach the spot where the swirling energy is the strongest.
Jeep, Jeep!
The easiest way, however, to see vortexes, red rocks, and everything else that makes the Sedona countryside exciting is by signing up for a jeep tour. There are several companies in the area including the original, Pink Jeep Tours, located at 204 N State Route 89-A, taking guests through the Sedona countryside while offering a narrative that will help you understand more of what you are seeing. The tours can last anywhere from 1.5 hours to 11 hours, but the more common tours are 2-3 hours in length. We really like this idea, as guests won’t have to worry about wasting time getting lost, plus, the tours really offer a synopsis of everything you really should see and do while visiting our red rock town. Arizona Safari Jeep Tours and Red Rock Western Jeep Tours are a couple of other businesses that we highly recommend.
Lunch at the Cowboy Grille & Spirits
However you spend your morning, by the time midday rolls around you will be more than ready for an American Bison Burger served just the way you like it at the historic Cowboy Grille & Spirits. Located at 241 N State Route 89A, this restaurant has been around for over 70 years, since the days when Western movies were made here, and it was a favorite hangout for some of the biggest stars of the day, including John Wayne, Rock Hudson, and yes, Elvis Presley. Today, it is one of those restaurants that complete an authentic and iconic Sedona vacation, offering a hearty menu, refreshing beverages, and the echoes of Old Hollywood experienced with every bite.
Urban Adventures in Sedona
Now that you have experienced the natural side of your escape to Sedona, it is time to switch gears, exploring cultural, sophisticated, and urban adventures that you may not expect from a historic town in the old west. If you are visiting in the summer, you may appreciate the chance to get out of the heat, savoring air conditioning all the more. It doesn’t matter the order in which you do all of these things or even if you are ABLE to do them all, we at Sedona.Org are just tossing out some ideas, perhaps encouraging you to come back again later when you have more time!
Sip and Savor at Winery 1912
Arizona wines are becoming quite competitive, and we are pleased offer a taste of the best with Winery 1912. Located at 320 AZ-89A #3 and tucked away in a stone and wood strip center, from the outside you wouldn’t be aware of what treasures await you inside, and we aren’t just talking about the wines. Step inside, and the walls of glass that take up the exterior of the building let in views so breathtaking, your heart may skip a beat, and you may lose the ability to form sensible thoughts. And then, with your first sip of wine, you will be able to breathe again, your heart will settle, and thoughts that begin with words like yum and wow, will be running through your mind. Winery 1912 is a stop on the Verde Valley Wine Trail, a trail of wineries and tasting rooms that take guests on a sipping journey through nearby towns of Clarkdale, Cottonwood, and Jerome, something you might want to keep in mind for a return visit.
Art is Everywhere
You really can’t go far into town without experiencing the art of Sedona. Navarro Gallery and Sculpture Garden offers a breathtaking selection of bronze sculptures, the Bearcloud Gallery has a selection of Native American Art, and Exposures International Gallery of Fine Art features art in all its forms, including glass, jewelry, sculpture, and paintings. These wonderful establishments will steal your heart, as will the dozens of smaller galleries and shops, all offering a unique perspective of the talents that can be found in our Arizona town.
Rocks of Ages
Remember, we mentioned a metaphysical side of Sedona way up at the beginning of this page, and if you thought the vortexes were what we had in mind, you are about to discover even more ways your metaphysical needs will be met in the red rocks. You can’t throw a stone without hitting a shop dealing in rocks and crystals, (See what we did there?) and shops like the Dragon’s Den Sedona, Mystical Bazaar, and Sedona Crystal Vortex all offer the stones and crystals you need to feel more balanced. Also offering clothing and jewelry, if you are flying anywhere soon and are lacking space in your luggage, you may want to skip these shops, as it is incredibly easy to fill your arms with bags of rocks that may make your luggage go over the weight limit!
And Every in Between
The galleries and crystal shops we mentioned above are just the tip of the shopping iceberg in Sedona, as you’ll also find bookstores, jewelry stores, clothing shops, souvenir shops, and our personal favorite, two year-round Christmas stores! You can attire yourself in the flower child outfits of that long ago time period, you can purchase jerky made from a variety of animals, including elk, bison, and other exotic flavors, and you can find houseware gifts that you wonder how you have lived this long without them. If you can think it, there is a shop in Sedona that sells it, and we can tell you that one afternoon is not enough to explore all of the shops in Sedona.
Totally Spahmazing
If, after all of the above, you find yourself with an hour or so to kill before dinner, why not take that time to spoil yourself with a visit to Sedona’s New Day Spa? Located at 3004 N State Route 89-A and offering massage, skin care, waxing, and Native Wisdom Rituals, you will need a good meal to wake up and turn your jelly muscles back into functioning parts of your body! But it is a great way to end a day of fun in Sedona, or at the very least, keep it in mind for that return trip that is now a certainty in your mind.
A Meal to Remember
Sedona truly is a foody paradise, and as you have enjoyed two other iconic dining experiences, of course we are going to finish off your Sedona day trip with an equally memorable meal. Elote Café is relatively new to the restaurant landscape, but this chef-driven restaurant located at 350 Jordan Road has become all the rage in its nearly 20 years of existence. Celeb chef Jeff Smedstad is an Arizona native that makes us proud, serving up a menu of Southern Mexico favorites that will make you understand the difference between true Mexican cuisine and the stuff served at chain restaurants in the Midwest!
Welcome Home to Sedona.Org
Whether you have just 24 hours in town or are here for a true vacation, our homes and condos will make you feel at home and are places where luxury and comfort go hand in hand. Reserve your favorite property today!
Summer in Sedona is nowhere near as crowded, as busy, as people-y as it can be in the winter, which makes the idea of spending your summer vacation in our red rock town an excellent one. The weather is close to perfect, the sun will be shining, and even on those days when the mercury rises a little high, the nights will be cool, crisp, and inviting and our Sedona.Org retreats offer all the ways to celebrate the season. Summer is THE season to visit, and this guide to the top things to do in Sedona in Summer will help you play, relax, and fall in love with the beauty and wonder that this part of Arizona has to offer!
Slide Rock State Park, 6781 AZ-89A
Long before Slide Rock State Park was even a glimmer in our state planner’s eyes, before the area was ranch land and an apple orchard, the waters that rush over the state’s longest natural waterslide were a swimming hole for the ones that lived here. Staying cool in a world without air conditioning, providing entertainment in a world where fun was rare, people have been “riding the slide” on hot summer days, and you have to think when a spot has been popular for hundreds of years, there must be something magical there. Today, the ranch and apple orchards are gone, but the waters still flow strong over the limestone (that is what the “slide” is made of) and although there is a fee, (currently in the summer months, it costs $30 per car for up to 4 people) if you didn’t visit, you would definitely be missing out on one of Sedona’s most fun summer activities!
Find Peace, Spirituality, and Air Conditioning at Chapel of the Holy Cross, 780 Chapel Road
You have probably already figured out that air conditioning is your best friend no matter where you travel to in the summer, and although you will only need it in the daylight hours, it is still perhaps the best invention, and Chapel of the Holy Cross can help you take a break from the heat. Built into the rocks and offering views of the Sedona countryside, the chapel is a still active one, but everyone is welcome to step inside and savor chilled air, stunning views, and the peaceful ambiance that permeates the space. There is also a shaded walking path outside the chapel, taking guests to one of our area’s most powerful vortexes, one that emits a serene and spiritual vibe, perhaps sharing its vibration with the chapel perched high on the rocks.
Take a Tour of Sedona with Pink Jeep Tours, 204 N AZ-89A
The best way to get to know the area you are visiting is by signing up for local tours, and the best and most fun way to explore the Sedona countryside in the summertime is by signing up for a jeep tour. There are many wonderful jeep tour companies in the area, but Pink Jeep Tours is the original, taking guests out to the vortexes, the canyons, the creek that runs through town and telling the stories of our land in a manner that is both educational and entertaining. Taking the magic off road, it is a bumpy but fun ride, their Broken Arrow two-hour tour is one that takes you around, over, and atop the red rocks you have been dreaming about for years. The Twilight Broken Arrow Tour is a little shorter, lasting just 1.5 hours, but it celebrates the sunset and the way the red rocks glow under its shine.
Walk in the Footsteps of the Ancients with a Tour of the Palatki Heritage Site, 877-444-6777
The Sinagua people left behind both a mystery and a beautiful peek into their lives and Palatki Heritage Site is the best place to walk in their footsteps. Tours are available in the morning hours only in the summer months, the last tour goes out at 11AM Wednesday through Saturday, offering knowledgeable guides that will explain the stories being told as you explore their ancient cliff dwellings and admire the rock art, pictographs and petroglyphs that adorn the walls of this archeological site. You will need to make a reservation, which can be done by calling ahead, and although the warm days of summer limit many intrepid explorers, there are only 14 people allowed in each tour, so you may want to sign up before you even leave your home state!
Shopping at Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, 336 AZ-179
There are plenty of places to shop for art and souvenirs during your Sedona adventures, but perhaps the shopping center with the most dramatic impact is the Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village. Built in the 1970s (not back during the Sinagua times, even though it may look that way!), the stucco walls that surround the village “hide” a beautiful secret. Offering art galleries, restaurants, souvenir shops, and even a Christmas store that is open year round, Tlaquepaque is our happy place and we’re betting you it will become yours as well!
Road Trips to Adventure
We are going to venture out a bit further in this next section, but never fear, we will always come back to Sedona and your stunning Sedona.Org sanctuary. It’s just that the towns that surround our town are vibrant and thriving villages that offer their own activities to make summer even grander than it already is and if you don’t explore while you’re here, you will always regret it!
Verde Valley Wine Trail with Elevated Sedona Wine Tours, Various locations
It is true that the Verde Valley Wine Trail is a year-round adventure, but it is still something wonderful to do in the summer, making it time for a road trip to explore the towns, and the wineries, that have become an integral part of our Arizona experience. We do suggest, however, that you sign up for a wine tour offered by Elevated Sedona Wine Tours, enabling you to sip and savor all you want, while someone else does the planning and the driving. The climate controlled van will pick you up at the front door of your lodgings, take you from tasting to tasting, and then dropping you back off at the end of the tour.
Grape Train Escape, Saturday Nights June Through September, The Verde Canyon Railroad in Clarkdale
The town of Clarkdale is home to three lovely wineries and should be on your Elevated Sedona Wine Tour, but for this trip, it’s going to be all about the Verde Canyon Railroad and their Grape Train Escape nights. Offering a wine tasting, charcuterie board, and a scenic ride through the Verde Valley, this tour is only available in the summer months, but they do offer other events, or the standard ride into the valley, year-round. The Verde Canyon Railroad’s original purpose was to transport miners and their families back and forth, but after the mines closed, instead of shutting down forever, it soon morphed into what it is today, a historic train that celebrates the beauty of the Arizona scenery, often with wine and treats! The depot that you will leave from offers a gift shop and a small museum for those interested in learning more about the trains and their history.
Jerome Ghost Tours, 403 Clark Street B-7 in Jerome
The town of Jerome, located just 24 miles away from Sedona, came seriously close to becoming a ghost town and may have disappeared forever if the artists hadn’t discovered its magic. Today, the town, once known for its mines, serves as a colorful and thriving artist’s colony of sorts, offering art galleries, shops, and wonderful restaurants in buildings that have history. Also known for the spirits that linger, Jerome Ghost Tours, each lasting an hour and taking guests to the areas of town known to be most haunted, we really think spending an afternoon and evening in town and then coming home to Sedona.Org will be another exciting summer activity you will wish never had to end! Don’t forget to enjoy a lunch or dinner at the Haunted Hamburger, an iconic Jerome experience.
Montezuma Castle National Monument, Montezuma Castle Road in Camp Verde
These activities we have listed here can obviously be enjoyed during any month of the year, but there is a special charm involved with engaging in them during the summer months, and Montezuma Castle National Monument especially, makes us happy. Offering another peek into the past, the cliff dwellings of the Sinagua people are carved out of limestone cliffs and as you enjoy the parklike setting that wanders in a loop, passing by Beaver Creek, and providing a serene vibe, we can assure you that you won’t mind the 30-minute drive to get there. The visitor center offers a wonderful exhibition that tells the story of those that lived, worked, and love in the cliffs and it still boggles our minds, all these years later, that anyone could live in these primitive structures, no matter how beautiful they look.
4th of July in Sedona, Posse Park & Cottonwood
The holidays are exciting in Sedona and although we don’t celebrate our nation’s birthday with fireworks, we do offer a fun festival that will help you stay cool as the temperatures rise. Costing nothing, the Sedona Summer Fest occurs at the pool at Posse Park, offering swimming, music, food trucks and more from noon until 4 PM. Because we are a dark sky community (remember we eschew light pollution) we don’t offer fireworks, but you will have plenty of time to drive to Cottonwood, located just 15 miles away, which IS offering a fireworks show, the grand finale to their Fantastic Family 4th of July. Their celebration doesn’t start until 4, and it offers free food, inflatables, a VFW Patriot Salute, a flyover of fighter planes from Luke AFB, and of course, the big booms you are seeking. Also offering kid’s activities and vendors selling everything from art to zebras, this all-American celebration is a Sedona favorite.
Let’s Take the Adventures Home
As you explore Sedona and the surrounding towns during your sensational summer vacation, you are truly going to have a vacation experience that will linger in your heart forever more and some of your favorite summer adventures may be the cozy ones you enjoy in our air conditioned retreats. Below we have listed a few of our favorite things to do in Sedona in Summer, and remember, many of these are activities you can enjoy year-round, so be sure to come back and explore during the cooler months of the year!
Hot Sun, Cool Waters
A private pool is perhaps going to be your favorite summer amenity, offering the opportunity to stay chill no matter what the thermometer reads. Many of our stand alone homes and quite a few of our condo communities will provide this amenity, and even though it is summer and warm in the daylight, you will greatly appreciate the hot tubs when the sun falls behind the red rocks. This second water adventure is popular no matter when you visit and after hikes, travel, or long rides on the pink jeeps, your muscles will thank you for the respite.
Home Theaters and Game Rooms
Although it doesn’t rain that much during the summer months, on the nights it does, holing up in our home theater rooms, snuggling under colorful throws with beverage and popcorn in hand may become your favorite memory. The game rooms, equipped with any combination of game tables, arcade games, and video game consoles, also provide more ways to play and relax during your fantastic summer escape to red rock country!

And if a boost is what your mood needs, the long weekend can be incorporated into a weeklong getaway spent exploring all that makes our red rock town famous all over the world, while examining all the comforts of home in our Sedona.org holiday hideaways. This guide to the top must-do Sedona Labor Day activities will surely lighten your mood and give you something wonderful to look forward to as summer passes by in the blink of an eye!
Shopping at Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, 336 AZ-179
Shopping while on vacation is a tradition that we hope never goes away, and although there will be many, many shops for you to explore during your Sedona adventures, if you don’t visit Tlaquepaque Arts & Shopping Village, you might find yourself questioning what you are doing with your life! This walled village offers art galleries and toy shops, restaurants and snack spots, and even a Christmas store that is open year-round. Feeling thirsty after meandering through this excitingly different mall? Oak Creek Brewery & Grill offers premium beers brewed onsite and its wine, food, and cocktails aren’t so shabby either! For those seeking an unusual wedding venue, Tlaquepaque has hosted some of the most beautiful weddings that we have ever attended and we can assure you that starting your new life as one at this wonderful place will set the stage for many years of wedded bliss.
Oak Creek Arts & Craft Show, August 29 Through August 31, Sedona Vista Village
We’re not bragging when we say the most talented artists in the world make their home in our red rock village, and if you don’t believe us, we think you will change your tune when you visit the Oak Creek Arts & Craft Show, held Labor Day weekend. Offering a stunning selection of Native American art, live music that will have you tapping your toes and singing along with the show, and a variety of food and beverage vendors that are sure to offer a dish that will pique your interest and start your tummy growling.

Walk in the Steps of the Ancients With These Sedona Labor Day Activities
Somewhere over 100 years ago, the Sinagua people settled into this area. They lived here, worked here, played here, and even though they disappeared or migrated elsewhere 650 years ago (stories are conflicting on how they left), they left their marks and you can visit and explore where their abandoned dwellings are in the locations listed below. Short road trips are required, but trust us, it is worth every mile you drive!
Tuzigoot National Monument, 25 Tuzigoot Road in Clarkdale
Located just 20 miles outside of Sedona in the town of Clarksdale, Tuzigoot National Monument offers the chance to get up close and personal with the Sinagua people, leading visitors on a self-guided “hike” (more like a casual walk) through the ruins of their 900-year-old pueblo. Most are simply a pile of stones left in the shape of the spaces they lived in, but there are some complete rooms that you will be able to enter, offering a peek into what life must have been like all those years ago. Interpretive signs along the trail will give you a deeper understanding, and views of the Tavasci Marsh will make you fall in love with this area. Tickets cost $10 per person but are also good for the next exploration of history.
Montezuma Castle National Monument, Montezuma Castle Road in Camp Verde
Located just 28 miles outside of Sedona, Montezuma Castle National Monument offers a different perspective on the ruins left by the Sinagua people. These ruins are carved out of limestone cliffs, perched high above the land to offer safety from whatever dangers they may have faced. You won’t be able to get inside these miraculously maintained spaces, but a visitor center museum shows what it looks like. Additionally, the shaded walk around the grounds, past Beaver Creek, which was more than likely their only source of water, offers a pleasant way to spend a quiet afternoon appreciating both nature and history.
What Adventures Await You?
Your adventures in our Sedona.org vacation escape are guaranteed to become your most cherished memories. Enjoying a late summer family barbecue and devouring the meal as the sun sets behind the red rocks. Swimming during the heat of the day (or relaxing poolside with a margarita in hand) and soaking in bubbling hot tubs when the moonlit night is cool and beautiful. Sleeping hard, dreaming happily, and relaxing even harder are more amenities you can enjoy during your fun-filled Labor Day weekend in our holiday hideaways. Book your favorite escape today!
