Secret Caves

We are well known for our red rocks, our vortexes, and the fact that many a Western movie has been filmed on this terrain, but did you know that we also offer a number of hidden caves just waiting to be explored? Offering a secret adventure that in most cases will be uncrowded and private, the caves listed below are just a sample of what you will find during your Sedona spelunking adventures!

The Birthing Cave

Although there is no evidence that Native Americans ever used this spot with stunning views as a place to give birth to their children and it is more likely named such due to its resemblance to a particular part of the female anatomy, the Birthing Cave is still worthy of visiting. Easily accessible through Long Canyon, the opening frames views of Thunder Mountain.

Mystery Cave

Accessed via Bear Mountain, Mystery Cave offers sensational views of the red rocks and is, in our humble opinion, the most beautiful of the secret caves of Sedona. Even better, it isn’t all that easy to find unless you know about it, almost guaranteeing that your time in the cave will be private and serene.

Dream Speaker’s Cave

History comes alive at Dream Speaker’s Cave, accessible via Boynton Canyon and offering panoramic views of two cliff dwellings. The hike to this fantastic cave is a difficult one that includes a 350 foot climb to reach the ledge where it is perched, but we can assure you, if you are physically capable this is one hike you won’t want to skip.

Sedona Attractions: Shaman’s Cave

There are a lot of hidden caves in the area, but we have more secrets to explore, so we will end our list of cave with Shaman’s Cave, accessed via Forest Road 525. Once used as a hideout for banditos, the cave is also known as Robber’s Roost and because the hike to the hideout is an easy one, we suspect this is one cave you will want to visit with the kiddos!

Peace, Love, and Bobby Sherman?

Ok, we took a trip in the way back machine for that title, but a visit to Amithaba Stupa and Peace Park will make you fall in love with this hidden and holy spot. Located at 2650 Pueblo Drive and described as a spiritual oasis, this park has become a destination for spirituality, offering the ideal spot for prayer and meditation. Those who know, know, but the park hasn’t reached the awareness of most travelers, giving visitors a quiet and peaceful stop during their whirlwind Arizona adventures. The park is free but it continues to thrive through donations from visitors, so if the spirit moves you, feel free to add your own donation.

Speaking of Spirits (The Non-Alcoholic Type)

This next adventure involves a short road trip south, with our iconic 89A highway leading visitors to the town of Jerome. Once this town built on copper mines and good time girls was in danger of becoming just another ghost town, until it experienced a revival of sorts due to the arrival of artists who moved in and began to renovate all the dilapidated buildings. It’s volatile history, however, refuses to keep quiet and if you like things that go bump in the night, you might want to consider participating in the ghost walks offered by Jerome Ghost Tours. Or you can spend your time dipping in and out of cool shops, eating a meal at the Haunted Hamburger, and sipping your way through the wine list of the Original Jerome Winery!
