What is a Plein Air Festival?
The name, plein air, kind of gives away what to expect, as it simply means the act of painting outdoors. You’ve seen plein air artists depicted in movies, television shows, and even in the books you have read, carrying their wooden boxes that open into an easel while often wearing a smock and a beret as they paint whatever catches their eye. These authentic outdoor artists, artists painting in open air, probably won’t be wearing smocks or berets, but the art they create will take your breath away. The festival lasts nine days, with each day offering something different and new, including days when you can meet the artists and talk about their works, days when the artists play games with their painting skills, and the best days, when awards are given and all the artwork that has been created right in front of your eyes, goes up for sale. The paintings from this event make great souvenirs.
A Beautiful Home Is a Work of Art
You will definitely be spending much of your daylight hours exploring all the masterpieces that are being created all over town, but once the sun sets and the night air takes on a delicious chill, coming home to the warmth and wonder of our Sedona Plein Air Festival escapes will be the highlight of your day. These properties will resemble all our other properties but they may offer more color on the walls, more art spread throughout the home, and views that will break your heart to leave and might even convince you to try your hand at plein air painting.
Welcome Home
And so, you find yourself standing outside the door to your Sedona sanctuary, eagerly punching in the code that will open the door to magic and fun. Stepping inside spaces filled with light, you will recognize an artist’s eye in the way the various bits and pieces of home goods are fitted together to offer a scene most artistic. Living rooms may feature vaulted ceilings lined with wooden beams, centered around a stone fireplace (most appreciated in the cooler months) and a high tech television that seems even high techier when contrasting against the rustic stones of the fireplace. Sofas will be plush, topped with soft leather, chenille, or other wonderful materials, and shelves and walls may feature some of the best works of local artists, offering an ambience of artistic genius that will make you feel right at home.
Art Can Be Anything
Art isn’t always a painting, a piece of pottery, or even a piece of jewelry, it can be a console table made of twisted wood that is polished to a soft glow and it can be a chandelier created from the antlers of deer. The views framed to perfection in windows placed just so could be considered art and so can the appliances in a fully equipped kitchen, offering name brands, all the bells and whistles, and tucked into the perfect spot under a counter made of stone. The artistic merits of a kitchen continues even further when you think about the meals that are made in the space, the way each ingredient complements the other and with just a stir, some heat, and all the right ingredients, another masterpiece is born!
Assembling Art
The dining rooms of our Sedona retreats offer everyone a chance to explore their own artistic talents, especially when the tables that dominate the space are used to assemble a puzzle. Spread all the pieces out on one end of the table and in spare moments, you and your kids, you and your spouse, or your spouse and your kids, can work together to put all the pieces in the most important room in the house.
More Magic Out Here
Whether you are going to use the backyards to create your own plein air piece or are just eager to get out and play, the backyards of our furnished rentals in Sedona AZ are where more magic will be found. Swimming pools may be a little too cold for swimming in during the festival, but perhaps they will entice you to return when the days are a little warmer. October is the perfect time to submerge yourself in the bubbling waters of the hot tub, and firepits or outdoor fireplaces will be enjoyable most of the year, but especially in the chillier months. Also offering hammocks, outdoor games, outdoor kitchens, and multiple places to sit, savor a sunset and a sip or two of Arizona wine, your outdoor moments in our big and beautiful backyards may be your favorite moments of all.
Could Your Dreams Be Considered Art?
Dreaming is a form of art that may not have entered your mind, but we support artists in all genres, and if colorful and imaginative dreams are your genre, soft beds, tranquil décor, and perfect pillows will help you create a true masterpiece. Some bedrooms may offer an area for work, an area for sitting and relaxing, and others may feature a second fireplace with flames burning bright. En suite baths may provide deep and jetted tubs, helping to prepare your mind for the magic it will create after your eyelids have closed and the moon is peeking in the windows you were just peeking out of earlier in the night. Comfortable beds and deep sleep will lead you to dreams so beautiful they would win awards if you could paint them for the judges of the Sedona Plein Air Festival!
